Still Alive

Just a quick post to let everyone know I'm still alive here in Toronto. I almost managed to get myself murdered walking back to my hotel last night. A bloke came up to me asking for money and kept hassling me for about two blocks. Eventually I got cheesed off and told him he was a lazy b*****d and to get a job.
He seemed to be offended and got quite aggresive, anyway a taxi pulled up so I jumped in with the silly prat screeming "I'll get even".
The plane journey here was interesting I had a nice young lady with her baby sat next to me. The interesting bit was when it reached feeding time (well it saves bringing a bottle). Actually she was very descreet under a blanket but I was still embarrased (slightly).
Thats just a couple of stories to be going on with. Yesterday I spent wandering around the city finding my bearings although I did go up the CN Tower.
Today I've been to Toronto Islands and spent about 4 hours wandering around, its a nice spot.
There is a problem with the Pubs here, they are so far apart you can sober up walking between. Wednesday when I arrived I got a meal near my hotel in a Pub called The Red Lion its was good and the people were friendly, had a good night but was tired so not late to bed.
Last night I tried one of the places I got advice on my blog "The Rex". They had Jazz on and they were quite good, the food was also fine.
Don't know where tonight yet but most places seem good, well see. Despite the idiot mentioned earlier most other people are really friendly.

Goodbye For Now

Tomorrow I will be leaving for Vacation to Toronto straight from work and don't know if I'll get chance to catch up on any of your Blogs while away. I suppose it depends on whether the Hotel has internet access at a decent price (Free - I am a tight Yorkshireman).

I'm out for a few beers tonight, we don't have a Pool match so me and my mate Lofty will be touring a few of the local Pubs, should just about get me in the mood for my trip.

Although I'm looking forward to my trip, this City is a new adventure for me, I know I'll miss comunicating with you all. I'm hoping for another trip before this year ends but don't know where yet.

Finally I'd like to say thanks to all of you that have given me encouragement lately. I've been a bit cheesed off with a few things (can't blog about some) and you all have been great.

You are a fine group of people.

On vacation I must stick to my Diet Rules

DIET RULES:
1. If no-one sees you eat something, it has no calories
2. When drinking a diet-coke with a chocolate bar, the fat in the chocolate bar is cancelled out by the diet-coke.
3. When you eat with someone else, calories don't count if you do not eat more than they do.
4. Food used for medicinal purposes does NOT count. (for example:chocolate, toast, cheesecake and vodka)
5. If you fatten up the people around you, you will look thinner.
6. Cinema-related foods have a zero calorie count as they are part of the entertainment package and not counted as food intake.(this includes: popcorn, minties, maltesers, jaffas and frozen cokes)
7. Biscuit pieces have no calories because breaking the biscuits up causes calorie leakage.
8. Food licked from knives and spoons has no fat if you are in the process of cooking something.
9. Foods that are the same colour have the same amount of fat. Examples are: spinach and peppermint ice-cream; apples and red jelly snakes.
10.Chocolate is a food-colour wild card and may be substituted for any other colour.
11.Anything eaten while standing has no calories due to gravityand the density of calorie mass.
12.Food consumed from someone else's plate has no fat as it rightfully belongs to the other person and the fat will cling to his/her plate.

My Thoughts

This weeks incident in which a blogger was made to feel uncomfortable about my comments and correspondance that followed upset me as you all know. But it also made me do what I always do in these situations, bury myself in my music and answer a few questions in my head (not a quick thinker).

Before I go on let me say I want to draw a line under this incident, I hold no ill feeling towards the person involved and I understand why she reacted like she did.

However I will share my thoughts, questions & answers with you : -

When this happend my imediate thought, does everyone think I'm some sort of pervert ?
This made me delete the post in fact I came close to deleting my entire blog but decided to apologise and think the 2nd part over. Although one of my failings is I take things to heart quite easily I usually think things over and logic takes over.
Believe it or not I put on my Mp3 player which as just under 500 songs on it and the 1st song it played was "The Last Time" by the Rolling Stones. This pointed to packing in my blog then the 2nd song (which you will not believe what it was) moved my thoughts to my other bloggers. It made me think how much I enjoy communicating with all of you, from that point there was no danger of me closing down my blog.

Another Question - Am I too Flirty with my comments ?
Well Yes I probably am, so I considered toning down my blog but after a lot of thought I decided against it.
Why ? Well this is what I am like I will say things that are complimentry and also jokey to people. If people can't understand this mentality I can't control that. I am male and yes I find females attractive (thats what most of us men do). I will add I am no danger to anyone and I am totally respectfull as far as ladies are concerned, I'm sure anyone who really knows me would tell you the same. I do enjoy flirting it is a laugh.

Another Question - Should I meet other bloggers if in their City or Town ?
Well anyone that reads my blog knows that if possible I would like to meet a lot of my blog contacts. If you read my profile you will see my interests include travel & meeting people so it is natural to want meet other bloggers when in their vicinity. Although the choice is theirs.
I started my travels visiting various Cities well before I started blogging, I travel to meet people, see the world and make new friends. That is what I like doing.

Final Question - Are Bloggers Friends or Acquaintances ?
My opinion is people I blog with on a regular basis are nearer friends than acqaintances. In real terms they are probably something in between but I do think the people we choose to blog with
are people we like and respect.
Certainly my top bloggers I would like to call friends, I really do like them as people.

I will complete this by saying if ever I say anything that offends anyone, it is not intentional and I will remove the post immediately.

Finally You have all dissapointed me this week (wink) Didn't anyone notice on my Wednesday Update I have lost 4.5lbs in the week.

Isn't Sport Great - Well Today anyway

Ok my Soccer team (Leeds United) have been crap this season, couldn't score in a brothel, in the relegation zone, sack the manager and what happens.

Yes you have got it beat League Leaders Birmingham City 3 - 2, the season starts here.

On to the Golf yes Europe are wooping the Americans (again).
As I write this we are going to be at least 4 points up going into tommorrows singles.

And Yes Your Tiger is having a nightmare keeps hitting is balls into the river, what a shame.

And of course we must mention the only Yorkshire man thats Austrailian. Darren Lehman playing his last ever match for our beloved Cricket Team and them needing to avoid defeat to escape relegation what does he do - Scores 339 runs in a innings (we declared on 677 for 7).
Today we stayed up.
An outsider playing for Yorkshire was unknown until the 1980's the Club would only allow people born within the boundries of our great county. They were stopped from doing this by the racial equality commision and outsiders are still very rarely accepted. To most of us it was Patriotism not Racism but this man has won everyone over, he is an hero. What a way to sign off, Today belongs to Darren.

I am a idiot

Tonight I am hurting because I have upset a blog friend with one of my posts. It was the post I did last night describing my thoughts on each of you. I have decided to delete the post.

Although most of those that commented found my descriptions amusing one friend was offended and pointed this out to me.
I did this post in fun and did not think it out, I said something that was very insensitive and stupid. I can only put my hands up admit I was wrong and apologise.

I am also worried that I may have upset other bloggers (except the 4 that commented positively) with my comments but others have decided to say nothing.

For the record I have been upset about it all night, I have just attended a training session and to be honest I just wasn't concentrating, I wanted to get home and delete the post.

I am not in this to offend people, just the opposite I get pleasure out of been nice to people. I am certainly not a threat physically or any other way to anyone. I would like to think people that know me would tell you all the same.

I don't feel like blogging much after this mistake, I never wanted to hurt anyone, I am a idiot.

Wednesday Update - Fighting Back

Weight Last Week - 223.5lb

Weight This Week - 219lb

Loss in Week - 4.5lb

Total Calories consumed in week - 13,354cals
Average per day - 1,908cals

Highest Day - 3,916cals - Beer Drinking Night

Following last weeks dissapointing gain I am pleased I have fought back and lost weight this week.
For the record this is my lowest level for a number of years I am pleased.

I have to be realistic here my holiday starts next Tuesday and tomorrow night I have a party to attend so this is probably it as far as weight loss goes until my return from vacation (8th October). I expect to gain a few pounds as I normally do on vacation but fight will start again on my return.

Thanks to all of you who have been supporting me, I need all the help I can get.

Where have all the good bloggers gone ?

Now before anyone gets upset at this article it is not about those of you in my blogging circle of friends.

When I started blogging just over 6 months ago following a chance reading of Regina's blog had got me commenting. I was persuaded to start my own blog and decided I would like more people to communicate with, at the time Regina & Joel supported my blog.

Over the first few months I made a few comments on the blog friends of these two bloggers and got a few comments back. I wanted my own circle so started to do random blog searches, when I found a blog I liked I commented and some of these started to write back (a few didn't reply). I think thats where most of my blog friends have come from and you are all great people that I really do consider genuine friends.

That brings me to my point, during the last week I have done quite a few blog searches and can't seem to find any blogs that interest me or that I feel I want to write to.

That raises the above question - Where have all the good bloggers gone ?

Perhaps I've got all the good one's on my list already.

Pissed Off

Ever felt really pissed off about everything and not know the reason why.

I've had this feeling all week and to be honest I am pissed off with been pissed off.

It started on Monday at work (I enjoyed my weekend) I just couldn't motivate myself.
I played Pool Monday played crap couldn't be bothered to concentrate (thats not me).
Tuesday somebody really irritated me, I was surrounded by idiots.
Wednesday still not enjoying work, went to Table Tennis training and just didn't want to play, had a couple of games and went home (I always love training).
Weigh in went bad put on 2lb.
Also Leeds lost again, they are playing crap, but we've been here before.
Thursday played Golf and just was not competitive, that is not me at all, I could have easily walked off after 9 holes.
Friday crap day at work, took a Table Tennis coaching session but just didn't really want to do it
I've just a total lack of motivation in everything at present.
Forgot to add I've just developed a sore throat, as you can imagine that as really pleased me.

Why am I feeling like this ?
What is the cure ?

Honest I am not normally like this and I don't like it. My holiday is coming up in under 12 days and I don't want to be a miserable prat.

I feel like going to the pub all weekend and going on a complete bender (not done that for a few years). Don't worry I won't.

Wednesday Update - A battle Lost

Weight last week - 121.5lb

Weight this week - 123.5lb

Gain - 2lb

Although I knew this was coming, it is still dissapointing when you look at the scale. Its easy to make excuses, I was ill, I had a extra night out, I had to eat for energy when competing, etc.

The bottom line is I was week, I ate the wrong foods, I drank too much, I didn't try hard enough, I was weak.

It looks like I won't make my target before my vacation (without a miracle) but I will be back on track this week.

For the record total Calories in the week = 18104
Average per day = 2586

Highest Day Thursday - 4211cals
Lowest Day Tuesday - 1029cals

20 pints of Beer and 6 bars of chocolate in the week didn't help.

Toronto - Can't wait

As most of my blog friends know I will be visiting Canada for the first time in just over two weeks time (Toronto).

Now a couple of months ago I appealed for some help/information on what to do in the city.

At the time I got some great advice from Modigli and some amazing information from Kristine, especially on the nightlife (and more).

One place I must visit is Nigara Falls, this will be a day trip not sure how but I believe there are quite a few tours (I believe you can even go by train).

I will hopfully be going up the CN tower, well it is the tallest building in North America.

I would like to tour a few of the neighbourhoods such as Little Italy, Chinatown, etc.

I like walking (best way to explore a city) and I plan a visit to Toronto Islands one day, Another day High Park is supposed to be really nice.

Yonge Street is the main North/south street and my hotel isn't far away so I'm sure I will explore it.

The Martin Goodman trail runs along the lakefront so I'm certain I will cover part of this, I may consider hiring a bike at some stage.

For events it seems the Harbourfront area or Nathan Phillips square will be worth spending a bit of time at these locations.

On to nightlife, I'm staying at the Ramada Hotel at 300, Jarvis Street which is a little walk from the main fun areas but walkable. I got information from Expedia of one Pub that does good food close to the Hotel on Jarvis Street called "The Red Lion", I'll probably try that on the Wednesday I arrive as I will be tired and not wandering far. Apparently they have a lot of imported beers, they may even have "John Smiths"(one can only hope for miracles).

Another place I got a tip to eat is "The Pickle Barrel" in the Eaton Centre.

Now one thing that is important to me on vacation is a good live music scene and the City sounds promising. Blog friend and local expert Kristine has been a great help here and as mentioned a number of places worth a visit :-
The Rex
The Silver Dollar
Horshoe Tavern
Cameron House
Lula Lounge
Reservoir Lounge

I'm sure I'll be visiting a few of these and also finding many more gems.

And of course I would like to meet up with Kristine on this trip for a meal and a few beers, hopfully she will be available at some stage. This fits in with my plan of meeting as many blog friends as possible and I'm sure I will enjoy Kristine's company (she sounds like a fun type person).
I am a little worried though with all this strong Canadian Beer Kristine may drink me under the table and I will make a fool of myself. I really do hope this night happens.

The one dissapointment for me is when I booked this vacation I had two blog friends in Toronto but one of them no longer blogs. It would have been great if I could have met the other friend on another night but it is out of my hands now. Only a thought but if you read this BF get in touch. You can't have enough friends.

Anyway I reckon I'm going to like Toronto and will bring back many good memories that you will all hear about.

Guilty Secret revealed

Ok nothing scandelous (no such luck) but I have to admit to all my blog friends that the diet hasn't gone well this week.

1. I was ill but starving in midweek so I ate more than I should.
2. Thursday night out drank too much Beer although I was a good boy and refused getting a Burger when the rest of the boys did.
3. I have played a Table Tennis competition and ate far too much of the wrong things this weekend. I know I was going to make a effort with my eating habits when competing.
4. Tomorrow is Pool night and I will be drinking as normal.

I fear Wednesdays weigh in, I fear the worst.

I encourage everyone else and can't keep on track myself so I will put my hands up to this as I think honesty with myself is my best approach.

I know I want to keep going with this weight loss but its hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel at present.

I wont be giving up though but I must find more motivation from somewhere. Sorry for letting everyone down especially considering the fantastic support you have all given me.

Played Four Won Four

Following the two victories reported yesterday we kept up the good work with a 7-1 win over Elgre (Nottingham) and a 6-2 victory over St Mary's Hull.

I lost my first match against the Hull No1 but it was really close, I led 8-4 in the fifth and deciding set before a run of points went against me. But credit to him for producing the goods when it mattered it was a really good match.

Despite the 4 wins we are only in 2nd place trailing Barrow who also won all their matches, we trail then by 2 sets only.

Great Start - Roll on Tomorrow

We started our British League Table Tennis matches today at Grantham and had a great start to the season.
Last season we had a bad first weekend with a draw and 3 defeats and and then struggled all season. We only just managed to avoid relegation with victories in our last two matches.

Anyway today we have started with two victories and although it may be short lived sit pretty at the top of the table.

Our first victory was a emphatic 8-0 win over Murrayfield (Edinborough), I bet they were really pleased they made the six hour drive from Scotland last night.

The second win was 6-2 over Formby T.T.C. (Liverpool), there was some very close games in this match.

Personally I was pleased to come away with 4 wins and a 100% record.

Tomorrow we return to face Elgre (Nottingham) & St Marys (Hull), you never know maybe another 2 wins, wouldn't that be great.

What Age Gap is ok

We had a bit of a debate at work the other day on age gaps between partners. We had quite a few differing opinions (most of them from a selfish point of view). Remember most were male and some thought its ok to date a women much younger but not the other way around.
The more serious people came up with between 2 and 5 years.

Some people reckoned the man should always be older than the women, I don't go along with this theory.

I also think as you get older (I'm 48) the gap can get wider say 5 or 6 years but you wouldn't expect a teenager to date someone with that sort of age difference.

For the record the oldest person I have dated was a young 50 years old and that was when I was 42 so 8 years older.

I have had a number of dates with younger ladies varying from 1 to 12 years difference although my gut feeling is 2 years is about right but its still pretty good up to 6 years difference.

The bottom line though it is still down to the individuals and their feelings.

Failure - Last Nights Women Hunt

Ok I'm not yet giving up but last night we drew a blank. I don't think it was me but origionally two of us were going to York and we ended up with five. Of course the other three were married or had a girlfriend so were not interested in chatting up the ladies.

Basically we just had a good time and drunk a lot of Beer (I'm certain the diet suffered).

Met up in Londsbrough Arms in Selby - 1 pint

Taxi to York to find one of our favorite Pubs "YO1" has shutdown so had to go in the nearest Pub "Golden Fleece" no chance of meeting a soulmate in there all couples - 1 pint

Moved on to "O'Neills" Irish Pub again no chance full of drunks - 1 pint

Moved on to "The Parrish" Gorgeous barmaids well worth a view but out of our league - 1 pint

Gonna go to "Flares" but it was surprisingly dead so moved on. Had to call in real ale pub "The Maltings" basically because I wanted the toilet. Full of Old men (like us) - 1 pint.

Moved on to "The Varsity" full of stunning Women, problem average age about 22 years, no chance - 1 Pint.

Next stop "Harkers" again a bar full of couples - 1 pint

On to "The Roman Bath" live group on called Blue Phluid (quite good), crowd our age group, a few women but we were knackered so just sat down in front of the stage and watched the group while closing. I'm sure if we had circulated we would have scored a success (dream on) - 3 Pints.

Felt rough at work this morning (must have had a bad pint in them ten).

I Feel Crap

At this moment in time I feel really crap, all my body aches, I have a headache, I feel sick. I don't know if its the effect of the Pills I am taking for my Elbow (read earlier posts) or whether I am coming down with somthing.

I went to training tonight and lasted a full ten minutes, I just had no energy at all. Funny thing is normally if I'm sick I lose my appetite but I could eat a scabby horse at present.

I am hoping I'm ok for tomorrows York trip and more importantly for National League this weekend. Shit it had better not be serious its starting to get close to my holiday.

I'm off to bed.

Wednesday Update - I feel stuck

Weight last week - 221.5lbs

Weight this week - 221.5lbs

Loss/Gain in week - 0lbs

No movement for the 2nd week running, A slight confession here I checked my weight Friday and had lost 2lbs so that means I have put it back on again. I am p****d off.

Food Intake :-

Wednesday - 1509cals - also did 2 hour table tennis training session + walked 5 miles.

Thursday - 1276cals - another 2 hour training session.

Friday - 1019cals - 5 mile walk.

Saturday - 1720cals - not much exercise rained a lot.

Sunday - 3007cals - should have played a Table Tennis tournament but was called in to work in the morning (that p****d me off). Got to the competition later to watch and ended up drinkin 3 pints of beer while I watched.

Monday - 3181cals - Once again calorie intake high on a Monday. Played Pool match and we won 6-3 (I won my 3 matches) but did drink 8 pints (again) and ate food after the match which I shouldn't do late at night.

Tuesday - 1360cals - Back on track with Calorie intake.

Total in week - 13072cals

Average per day - 1867cals

One point of note is I have moved my belt in one notch, that must be good. In fact I had to drill another hole in it because it was getting slack.

Winter Vacation

Three Posts tonight

I am planning a winter vacation to the states early December. Now weekends I am available are 2nd/3rd or 16th/17th. I would like to span 2 weekends but 9th10th is our 2nd British league dates.

Well our 1st matches are this coming weekend and if we can get 6 or more points (out of 8 possible) I would be quite happy to miss the 2nd weekend, if we don't we could get into a relegation scrap and I will be needed. Last season we only got one point on the 1st weekend and ended up having to win our last match of the season to stay up, we can't take that risk again. We are not really interested in chasing promotion yet as we are bringing some young players through and are not quite ready.

Anyway if I end up been able to span two weekends here are the options I have been looking at (They are all places I will visit sometime even if not this time) :-

Atlanta & New Orleans (can get decent prices on some very good NO hotels
Atlanta & Savannah (yes Jenny I have listened to your suggestion)
Atlanta & Memphis (Ok I've been to Memphis before but its good fun)

Atlanta each time here cos I can get a decent direct flight at present, I also considered going back to Nashville but as yet can't get a good Atlanta - Nashville flight.

I've also looked at Texas (Austin and Fort Worth as Texasgal as suggested). Having problems in getting good hotels at the right price in Fort Worth but I'll keep looking. The only one Downtown that I could get a good price on was "Park Central" but it has some very bad reviews. This may end up been my next trip April/May next year.

The other place I looked is southern California and I have a question for Modigli :-
In San Diego which is the best area to get a Hotel from the following ?
Beach Cities
Mission Valley
North Coast
Downtown
Consider I won't be hiring a car as I like drinking on vacation so the hotel needs to be near the best nightlife.

Question for all of you - What is the average December tempretures in all of these places ?

I am looking at other cities and I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.

Thursday's Women Hunt.

Recently I wrote a post It May be Your Lucky Day (or not) which was a fun article to find my ideal Women.

Now my work mate "M" has just been divorced and wants to go out to York with me this Thursday. In fact we are planning this trip on a regular basis about every 2/3 weeks. A couple of other blokes may also come with us.

"M" say's following his recent experience he isn't interested in a long term partner but lets just say he would like some action.

The bottom line is we are going out with the sole intention of chatting up a few women to see what happens. Now I reckon as far as I'm concerned there are 3 possible scenarios :-

1. "I get lucky and find my perfect soulmate" - Now in this case I would not expect sex, I am a little old fasioned and believe a women who is willing to have sex on a first date sleeps with too many people and no way would be my type, I know some will agree and some disagree but I believe a proper relationship takes its time to get intimate.

2. "We find some women looking for no strings attached fun" - I certainly know thats what "M" is hoping for.

3. "Total Failure" - No luck on the women front but we have a good night, drink too much beer and suffer at work the following day. This wouldn't be a total disaster as I need the drinking practice before my Toronto trip (3 weeks to go), apparently their beer is strong and I wouldn't want to show myself up trying to keep up with any of the ladies.

I know there are other possibilities but I promise to tell all on this blog (I may regret this).

Anyone want to guess which scenario might happen ?

Olecranon Bursitis

I have been to the doctor and he has put me on two lots of tablets, Antibiotics to clear up the infection and anti-inflammetry to get rid of the swelling. The infection should go in under a week but the swelling may take a bit longer.

Steve Irwin a Australian Hero loved by Brits.

I was going to do a tribute to Steve but Cactusfreek has beaten me to it, which is only right as she is Australian.
Steve lived for animals and helped the most ferocious, he thought nothing of dealing with the most dangerous. He lost is life when making a documentry he was stung by a stingray through the heart doing what he loved. I was a big fan.

Am I Racist ?

A couple of years or so ago I was accused of been a racist, here are the facts.

Where I work we had a Muslim worker who asked for time off work during one of their religeous festivals. Fair enough I dont have a problem with that and the company let him.

Now let me explain our process is a continuous Fermentation process and we have to work 24hours, 365 days per year. Ok we operate weekends and out of ours with a skeletan shift team.

Why was I accused of been racist because I suggested the muslim worker did the Christmas shift to allow somebody else to have the time off with their children. The muslim insisted he had christmas off.

What do you think ?

Pain

Today I am in agony, I have a infection in my elbow joint and believe me it really hurts. I virtually can't bear to move my arm. Last night I got very little sleep due to the pain.

It is so inflamed and as swollen up with fluid, it looks like I have a red egg attached to my elbow.

I do occasionally get inflamed joints (usually ankle or knee) but this is the 2nd time in the elbow. Last time was about 3 years ago but in my other arm. This time its at least in my left arm which is usually useless anyway ( i'm totally right handed).

I have taken some anti-inflamatry tablets and hope it helps.
