Hurricane Katrina Benefit Concert - Louisiana 1927

This is Marcia Ball performing a Randy Newman song (about a 1927 Hurricane)at a Charity concert for Katrina victims.
I'm posting this because one of my blog friends Rebecca originates from New Orleans and has just visited her home town and is p****d off with the work still required down there.
For the record I saw Marcia live in Memphis last year and she was raising money for victims then. Good job musicians have more heart than people involved in politics.

Hey thanks for the blurb. Two musicians in particular have reached out to N.O. The Edge from U2---donated quite a bit of money to the schools trying to rebuild that will allow them musical instruments for students. Also, Harry Connick Jr. (he was bron and raised in N.O.--dad was a major player in politics there for years) he's started housing for local musicians to bring them back to N.O. So may of them lost their homes in the 7th and 9th ward. Comic Relief did a big gig about a month ago to raise money (haven't heard what amount yet)...And Brad Pitt (although I don't much care for him) has decided to shoot a couple of movies there to help bring $$$ into the city for local businesses. So many place have closed and many of the chains are offering 2 and 3,000 dollar bonuses to new employees. The lower paid workers are mostly who left. Still consider traveling to N.O on one of your next adventures~ You can shop locally by going thru www.wwltv.com a New Orleans news station who support local businesses.

Off to sleep I go...

No matter who's in government, it's still the people for themselves. The people at the top just hand out plenty of lip service.
The tsunami that hit on boxing day last year, only 10% of the money promised by all countries to help with relief has been given. Funnily enough, the countries that promised the most money, have given the least, and in one case none at all.And it's a year later.

Rebecca,
Last year when I decided to start visiting North American Cities the two places I wanted to visit most were New York and New Orleans.
I decided to visit NY in June and A friend suggested I doubled it up with Chicago so I did. I loved Chicago and have been back 4 times since usually doubling up with another city (I can get flights easy to Chicago which is a bonus).
The plan was to do New Orleans in September 2005 but the Katrina struck so I ended up going to Memphis instead.
I will do NO one day without doubt I am sure.

Cactus,
My experience of polititions agrees with you none of them can be trusted what ever party they represent.
They are all in it for themselves whether it be for money, power or publicity.
