Sunday Sport - Not a Good Start in the Ashes Defence

Well England have made a atrocious start to their defence of the Ashes, after 4 days of the first test in Brisbane they are well over 300 runs behind with only 5 wickets left. We have one day to survive to get out of this mire and pull off a undeserved draw (Kevin Pieterson is going well though). I think we will be doing a rain dance for tomorrow.

Although we see the Aussies as the enemy in Cricket you have to take your hat off to a superior performance.

Although I hear the police were a bit heavy handed with our noisy supporters the "Barmy Army", even the trumpeter got thrown out. whats up can't your players take the barracking (wait until next time you come to Headingley and face the Western Terrace)

Credit to Glen McGrath who took 6 1st innings wickets he is truly one of the worlds great bowlers.

Word of warning to our friends from the former convict colony don't forget you won the first test last time but who won the series.

More bad performances for the home countries at Rugby Union :-
England 14 - 25 South Africa
Wales 10 - 45 New Zealand
Scotland 15 - 44 Australia

Mr Robinson you are Coach to the World Champions you can't buy a win its time to go.

On to Soccer and some good news that the Mighty Whites are out of the relegation zone thanks to a 2-1 away win at Plymouth a great result. An early goal from Robbie Blake and a winner from American International Eddie Lewis (photo below) sealed the victory.

For the more optimistic among us we are only eleven points below a play off spot.

Normally I hate Scottish Soccer teams but this week I supported Celtic to their great 1-0 European Cup match victory. This result guarentees they qualify for the last 16.

Did I mention their opponents were of course "The Red Vermin" and Celtics manager was no other than former Leeds player Gordon Strachan (Photo below). We will now support Benfica next week to see if they can put the Red B******s out.

Anyway I reckon a suitable subject for this weeks post is "Who are your favorites most hated rivals ?"

Soccer - My Club side Leeds absolutely hate Manchester United (Red Vermin or Scum), we hate everthing thet stand for, we hate their Prawn sandwich eating corporate supporters and the sad anoraks in all towns around the country that reckon they are fans but haven't a clue where Manchester is. We will support anyone who plays them. They are media obsessed rich boys that think they own the sport. They call themselves the biggest club in the World when everyone knows its Real Madrid (Manchester City are the biggest club in Manchester), they call their stadium "The Theatre of Dreams" the only thing I dream about is having a shit in the there. They also come from Lancashire but pull their supporter base from around the country, we have more respect for other Lancs clubs.

We also hate Chelsea but would support them against the above. This is more historical in 1967 they cheated us in the FA Cup Semi-final at Villa Park when Lorimers perfectly good goal was disallowed (to this day no one knows why). They also kicked us off the park (animals) in the 1970 cup final and can't be forgiven. In the 1970's and 80's there were a number of clashes between supporters the most documented was in London at Picadilly Circus when hundreds of the notorious Chelsea Headhunters gang clashed with the Leeds Service Crew, many were hospitalised and there was 268 arrests.

Internationally we traditionally hate the Germans but I reckon the main hatred is saved for Argentina. I think this arises from the 1980 Falklands War between the countries. Rivalries wern't helped with Diego Maradona's infamous "Hand of God" goal (cheating t**t).

But lets face it the Argies are a bunch of Cheating, diving, fairies (see photo below).

Obviously from this post you will realise there is massive rilavry at International Cricket between us and the Aussies. At County level Yorkshires main rivaly is with the Red Rose boys Lancashire but that is the case in many sports.

So Who are your teams most hated opponents ?

And why do you Hate them (now is your chance to totally slag them off) ?

In college football, Alabama's two biggest rivals are Tennessee (spit) and Auburn. The former, because their coach is a whiney baby rat two faced wimp (and that's being nice.) The latter, because they are in state rivals and it's just tradition.

And I like to watch the San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons but they are also big rivals. I like 'em both though so when they play, I can't lose! Either way, my team wins.

Good win on Saturday, our 2nd goal was a peach I thought! Lets hope we can get back to back results on Tuesday.
Well teams I love to hate, where shall I begin...
I have to say I hate Chelski more than the 'Red Gerbils', controversial I know, but that 1970 Cup Final and the way they kicked Eddie Gray about has stuck in my memory. They have always been so superficial too. I have to admit to a grudging admiration for Ole Red nose (Sir Alex) the old git knows what he's doing it has to be said. I've only ever gone to Old Trafford to watch Rugby,(the last time in October for the Grand Final of course) trying to get a drink near that place is nigh on impossible. No wonder they get away with charging £3.50 for a bottle of Bud, everyone is dying for a drink when you get in the place!
On the rugby league note, Hull FC's old enemy, Hull KR are back in the top flight. I for one cant wait till April 9th and the 1st proper derby game in years. It will be televised on Sky Mick, recommended viewing it has to be said. The gloves will be off!
I also love us to beat the Aussies at anything. Just doesn't happen often enough lol.

The QLD police were heavy handed with everyone, and they have been widely criticised over it.
I think they were so worried over the butthead crowd at the last ashes, that this years idea of prevention was over-kill! There were something like 200 Australians arrested. So it's not that the barmy army were targeted, even though you have to admit that they are terrible trouble makers at times!
I can't remember what state they said the next game was in, but the police there have already said that they won't be THAT harsh.

I find it interesting how the rest of the world likes to mention that Australians came from convicts. Yet in actual fact, there were many more free settlers in Australia than there were convicts. As a pom, you of all people should know that! lol

Rach,
Hang on my geography is not brilliant but San Antonio is not near Detroit how comes they are big rivals ?
Come to think of it neither are close to where you live so why do you like them ?

Airliebird,
Its definately MU for me its just the Saddos that come out and gloat every time they win (never see them when they lose). You'll know the type never seen them play but wear nothing else but the silly shirt.

Cactus,
The Barmy Army are just noisy, ok a few drunks maybe but I've never seen trouble at cricket just a lot of micky taking.
To be fair our press never mentioned your lot getting arrested just made it look like our fans were been targeted.
Yes the Convict story always gets a bite.
Actually believe it or not we admire how well your country does at sport and like you.
Don't forget it was a Yorkshireman that discovered the place.

Actualy WRB, i think it was an aborigine that discovered the place, the rest were just boat people lol

And it's funny, now the Australian government won't allow boat people in. Bit of a double standard there?
